The days of trick or treating may be long gone for us grown-ups but that doesn’t mean we can’t still have fun on Halloween. Adulting isn’t always fun but when it comes to the spooky season, there may be even more things for grown-ups to do than kids.
Bring out the inner kid in you with these 10 super-fun ways to enjoy Halloween as an adult.
- Horror movie marathon
If you’re not inclined to get all dressed up and venture out, a horror movie marathon is the perfect way to get spooked while having fun from the comfort of your couch.
Decide on a few title selections early on so there’s no debate—and if you’re having trouble deciding, put your top choices in a hat and pick them at random. If you really want to make it a binge-fest, tune into an entire season of a scary TV series of ghost-hunting show and watch ’til you drop.
- Throw a murder mystery party
Whether it’s dinner or just appetizers and drinks, a murder mystery party is a fun way to do something totally different this Halloween. You can design your very own murder mystery event by selecting a theme, character descriptions, the plot and clues, but you can also buy a pre-made kit to make things easy, especially if you’re a first-time murder mystery host.
- Book a Halloween escape room
Test your group’s resourcefulness and smarts by booking a Halloween-themed escape room near you this Halloween. This activity is great for a more interactive and immersive experience. Instead of merely watching a horror movie, you’re in it and you have limited time to save yourself and your friends and get out. Find one near you using this tool.
- Visit a haunted house or go on a ghost tour
See a side of your town or city you didn’t know existed by exploring haunted tours in your town. Here’s a great resource for locating all things haunted in your area, plus the top haunted house of 2022 in every state. Take it one step further and book a night in a hotel rumored to be haunted.
- Visit a theme park
Double down on terror with a trip to a theme park with a Halloween theme. Between screaming your head off on the scariest roller coasters to being chased by teenagers dressed in spooky costumes, a theme park is one of the best all-in-one adult activities for Halloween…if you can hack it.
- Host or attend a Halloween party
For a more traditional take on the spooky holiday, consider throwing a Halloween party or attending one you’re invited too. Be sure to include all the trademarks of the best Halloween parties—creative invites, gory Halloween snacks, a cauldron of punch, the perfect playlist, a costume contest, and—most importantly—over-the-top decor.
- Host a Halloween-themed game night
Whether you’re into calling on spirits using an alphabet emblazoned board and planchette or you’re more the detective type gathering clues to solve a mansion murder, a night of Halloween-themed board games is the perfect way to gather with friends for a night of fun. You’d be surprised at how many horror board games there are to choose from!
- Tell ghost stories around a fire
Gather your besties and huddle around a campfire for a night of ghost stories. Task each person attending to come prepared with a ghost story and go around the fire taking turns telling your stories with as much eerie suspense as possible. You can even up the ante with a cool prize for the winner.
- Have a lawn off with neighbors
If you’re prepared to go big this year, recruit a few interested neighbors and challenge them to a Halloween lawn off—and may the best yard win. Get non-participating neighbors and their kids to vote—and if all goes well—make it an annual event!
- Dive into a horror novel
If you’re feeling a little more reclusive this Halloween, you can still get in on all the Halloween fun—even if it’s just for one. Seek out a truly terrifying horror novel and curl up for a cozy night of literary fright.
If you’re super energized about Halloween this year, go all out. There’s no need to limit yourself to just one of these fun activities—knock a few of these out this season and post your images and videos to social and tag @purelyinspirednutrition for a re-share!
Happy Halloween and have a fa-boo-lous time!
